Remote, hybrid or onsite: 71,605 US job postings
Of 71,605 US job postings from 2,310 employers, 21.4% are remote and 11.8% are hybrid. The other 66.8% show no sign of either. When a posting spells out an office schedule, 3 days a week is the most common answer (35.8%), just ahead of 5.

The short answer
- remote: flagged remote, or remote in the location or title (15,299 postings)
- 21.4%
- hybrid: says hybrid, or 1 to 4 office days a week (8,473)
- 11.8%
- onsite or unstated: no remote or hybrid signal (47,833)
- 66.8%
About one posting in five is remote and about one in nine is hybrid. The split depends heavily on which system a company hires through. Ashby postings are 54.5% remote. Workday postings are 5.7% remote and 82.3% onsite or unstated.
The onsite number is the weakest of the three. A posting that says nothing about where you work is counted as onsite, because that is how most of them read in practice. It is a ceiling for true onsite roles, not a count of postings that say "onsite".
By applicant tracking system
Startups tend to hire through Ashby and the YC jobs board, and they post the most remote roles. Large employers on Workday post the fewest. Greenhouse, in the middle, has the most hybrid wording of any system we read.
| Source | Postings | Remote | Hybrid | Onsite or unstated |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Greenhouse | 31,374 | 20.6% | 17.4% | 61.9% |
| Workday | 15,032 | 5.7% | 12.0% | 82.3% |
| Ashby | 10,614 | 54.5% | 4.5% | 41.0% |
| Lever | 3,097 | 16.5% | 3.9% | 79.6% |
| YC jobs board | 2,726 | 41.5% | 0.4% | 58.1% |
| All other sources | 8,762 | 6.1% | 6.9% | 87.0% |
Hybrid is mostly a Greenhouse and Workday phenomenon here. On Ashby and the YC board, a company is more likely to be fully remote or fully in a single office, and to say little about a schedule in between.
By role family
We sorted titles into broad families with keyword rules. They are rough, so one bucket is simply "everything else", but the gaps are wide enough to survive that.
| Role family | Postings | Remote | Hybrid | Onsite or unstated |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Software and other engineering | 30,821 | 17.4% | 11.3% | 71.3% |
| ML, AI and data science | 9,459 | 20.9% | 12.0% | 67.1% |
| Product and design | 4,854 | 27.0% | 13.0% | 60.0% |
| Sales and marketing | 7,856 | 32.8% | 14.1% | 53.1% |
| Finance, legal and people | 2,892 | 26.2% | 16.5% | 57.4% |
| Everything else | 15,723 | 21.1% | 10.4% | 68.5% |
Sales and marketing is the most remote family (32.8%), and finance, legal and people is the most hybrid (16.5%). Software and other engineering is the least remote (17.4%). That bucket includes hardware, manufacturing and defense engineering, which has to be done on site.
How many days in the office
Only 3,412 of the 71,605 postings state an office schedule in the form "N days a week" near a word like office, onsite or in person. For those, the distribution looks like this.
| Days a week | Postings | Share of those that state it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 94 | 2.8% |
| 2 | 336 | 9.8% |
| 3 | 1,223 | 35.8% |
| 4 | 574 | 16.8% |
| 5 | 1,185 | 34.7% |
Three days is the modal hybrid schedule, and 4 days is nearly twice as common as 2. The 5-day group is employers saying outright that everyone is in the office, and only 20 of those 1,185 postings are also remote.
What we counted
OfferMagnet reads public job postings from company careers pages and boards. For this study we kept postings located in the United States that our crawlers first saw between 19 September and 30 October 2026. That is a snapshot of postings open at some point in the window, not a count of hires.
Each posting gets one label, checked in this order:
- Hybrid, by location or title: the word "hybrid" appears in the location or the job title.
- Remote: the posting's remote flag is set, or "remote" appears in the location or title.
- Hybrid, by description: workplace wording such as "hybrid work model", "hybrid role", "#LI-Hybrid" or "Hybrid" as a location tag, or 1 to 4 days a week in the office. Phrases like "hybrid cloud" or "hybrid architecture" are excluded.
- Onsite or unstated: everything else, including postings that say onsite.
We left out the three employers with the most US postings in the window. Together they are 10.3% of the 79,843 US postings we read, and they would otherwise pull every average toward themselves.
What to do with this
- If you want remote, start with Ashby-hosted startups and sales, marketing and product roles. Those have the highest remote shares in this data.
- If you want hybrid, expect 3 days. When a posting gives a number, it is 3 about a third of the time and 3 or 4 about half the time.
- Do not read silence as onsite. Two thirds of postings say nothing, and many of those employers allow some remote work. Ask the recruiter in the first call.
- Check the location field and the title before the description. That is where "Hybrid" and "Remote" usually sit, and where filters look.
- Read for the word "primarily" or "five days". A fully onsite expectation is often stated once, in the middle of the posting.

Method and sources
- Source: OfferMagnet's own index of public job postings. 79,843 US postings first seen 19 Sep to 30 Oct 2026; 71,605 from 2,310 employers after setting aside the three with the most postings.
- Remote: the remote flag is set, or the word "remote" is in the location or title. Hybrid: "hybrid" in the location or title, or workplace wording in the description (hybrid work, role or model, #LI-Hybrid, a Hybrid location tag), or 1 to 4 office days a week. Remote is checked before description wording.
- Days in office: the first phrase like "3 days a week" within about 70 characters of office, onsite or in person. Descriptions stop at 4,000 characters, so counts from text are a floor.
- We report counts of postings, not people. No individual, applicant or customer data is used in this study.
