How many job postings mention AI? 59.5% of US ones

Of 56,954 US job postings, 59.5% mention AI somewhere in the text. But only 7.0% are AI roles with AI in the title, and 99.6% of those are engineering jobs. Most of the rest mention AI in passing: sales postings mention it 68.2% of the time, yet only 5.9% name a specific AI skill.

The short answer

mention AI, LLM, machine learning or a similar term (33,872 of 56,954)
59.5%
have an AI term in the title: the AI roles (3,983)
7.0%
mention it in the text only, with no AI title (29,889)
52.5%

Two very different things hide in the 59.5%. One is a job about AI. The other is a job at a company that talks about AI. Among the 52,971 postings with no AI title, 56.4% still mention it, but only 14.0% (7,400) use a specific term such as LLM, machine learning, generative AI, ChatGPT or Copilot. The rest use the bare word "AI", usually in the employer blurb: "an AI company", "AI-native", "the AI era".

So if you are not applying for an AI engineering job, expect to see AI in nearly every other posting, and expect a named tool or skill in about one in seven. Our counts are a floor: we read the first 4,000 characters, and 85% of postings hit that cap.

AI mentions by role family. US postings on Greenhouse, Workday and Ashby first seen 19 Sep to 30 Oct 2026, excluding the three largest posters. Role family is assigned by keywords in the title; the first match wins, so it is rough. AI-title cells outside engineering are tiny and shown as counts.

AI roles are an engineering phenomenon: 3,969 of 3,983 AI-titled postings sit in engineering and data. Everywhere else, AI shows up as context. Sales, marketing and design postings mention it most often, which fits employers describing their own product or asking people to use AI tools day to day.

Workday15,032996 (6.6%)4,718 (31.4%)38.0%
AI mentions by applicant tracking system. Same window and exclusions. Ashby and Greenhouse skew to startups and scale-ups; Workday to large employers.

Ashby postings mention AI more than eight times in ten. Workday postings, where large established employers post, mention it less than four times in ten. The share of AI titles is close across all three, so the gap is the employer blurb, not more AI jobs.

What we counted

OfferMagnet reads postings from company careers pages on Greenhouse, Workday and Ashby. We kept postings located in the United States that our crawlers first saw between 19 September and 30 October 2026, and set aside the three employers with the most postings (8,221 postings): 56,954 postings from 1,322 employers.

  1. AI mention: the text or title contains the capitalized word AI (or A.I.), LLM or LLMs, machine learning, generative, GenAI, ChatGPT or Copilot, matched as whole words. Lowercase "ai" inside other words (Thai, Hawaii, AIA) does not match.
  2. AI in title: the title contains any of those terms, or the capitalized abbreviation ML. That leaves 3,983 postings; 198 of them match only on ML, such as "ML Infrastructure".
  3. AI in text only: a mention in the description but none in the title. A posting is counted once, in the title group if it qualifies there.
  4. Specific term: LLM, machine learning, generative or GenAI, ChatGPT or Copilot in the description, with the bare word "AI" ignored.

What to do with this

  1. Do not filter on the word "AI". It appears in 59.5% of postings, so it tells you almost nothing on its own.
  2. Look for a named skill. LLM, machine learning, ChatGPT or Copilot in the requirements section is a real signal. A line in the company blurb is not.
  3. Outside engineering, name one AI tool you use at work (drafting, analysis, research) on your resume. Two thirds of sales, marketing and design postings mention AI, and a concrete example beats a buzzword.
  4. Aiming for an AI role? Search engineering titles. Almost every AI-titled posting we found is there.

Method and sources

  • Source: OfferMagnet's own index of public job postings from Greenhouse, Workday and Ashby. 56,954 US postings from 1,322 employers first seen 19 Sep to 30 Oct 2026, after setting aside the three with the most postings.
  • Terms are matched as whole words over the title and description: capitalized AI or A.I., LLM(s), machine learning, generative, GenAI, ChatGPT, Copilot. AI-title also counts the capitalized ML. Text is cut at 4,000 characters, so counts are a floor.
  • Role family is assigned by keywords in the title, first match wins; Other is everything unmatched. Cells under 20 postings are not interpreted.
  • We report counts of postings, not people. No applicant or customer data is used.
